A global company is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Compliance Manager / Data Protection Officer (MY/APAC) to join their team in Kuala Lumpur.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within, maintain and improve the compliance management system and data protection programme. The successful candidate will be instrumental in coordinating activities for the organisation in alignment with global and regional objectives and initiatives for Malaysia and APAC (Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Japan, and South Korea).

What you'll do:
As a Compliance Manager / Data Protection Officer (MY/APAC), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's compliance landscape. You will be responsible for managing both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that all compliance demands are met. Your keen attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining and improving CMS, while your strong interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively communicate updates and reports to management. As the appointed DPO, you will also oversee our data protection program, ensuring that we adhere to all relevant laws and regulations.

• Maintain and improve the compliance management system and promote a culture of compliance
• Manage internal (management) and external (customers) stakeholders in relation to compliance demands
• Prepare regular updates and reports to management regarding the CMS
• Maintain a sound understanding of local business activities and applicable laws and regulations
• Identify local compliance priorities, planning activities based on risk
• Ensure that global steering documents are adopted and localised
• Conduct compliance training and awareness programmes
• Act as the Compliance contact for the 'Know Your Business Partner' due diligence process
• Provide compliant advice to internal stakeholders through the Compliance helpdesk
• Serve as the appointed data protection officer (DPO) in Malaysia and be the contact person for authorities
• Meet and maintain statutory and internal requirements
• Support the global data protection office to advise on the processing of personal data
• Perform privacy impact assessments as required
• Review and assist in negotiations of data processing agreements

What you bring:
The ideal candidate for this Compliance Manager / Data Protection Officer (MY/APAC) position brings a wealth of experience from a similar role.

• Degree in Law, Business Administration, Accounting, or other degree suitable for compliance
• Three to five years' compliance, legal or other relevant experience such as finance or audit
• Experience in antitrust, anti-corruption, AML, data privacy, and/or information security
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong attention to detail with good planning, organisational, and communication skills
• Fluency in English and preferably proficient in an Asian language
